Meet Sharon
When I decided to become a medium, I often heard, “I thought you had to be born with that” or “I didn’t think you could learn to be a medium.” I wasn’t sure about that myself, but I was curious and determined. I began reading everything I could about mediumship and put what I learned into practice. I discovered that the quiet, receptive state used to connect with spirit felt very similar to the one I entered when doing healing work.
I’ll never forget my first clear connection with someone else’s loved one in spirit. “Ruth” confirmed that yes, her dad had an “L” name, he smoked heavily, and he’d passed from cancer. The best part was when I mentioned seeing a military uniform. Ruth told me her father had been in the military, and she had just been looking at his uniform a few days earlier. That first experience showed me what was possible and gave me the confidence to keep going.
I took classes and workshops, visited Spiritualist churches, received readings, and participated in circles. I even exposed my kids to professional mediums so they wouldn’t think Mom had gone nuts. I went on to study at Arthur Findlay College in England for a week-long mediumship intensive that changed my life. One of my tutors told me I had been using my mediumistic abilities my whole life and was a “natural medium.” I returned to the college in 2014, 2017, and 2023 for more extraordinary weeks of training and inspiration.
Over time, my skills deepened. After giving 118 free practice readings and additional small group readings, I began offering professional readings and group demos in person and online. I started a weekly in-person development circle in 2012 that met for seven years. In 2019, I began leading online circle-classes. Today I offer online circles, mentorship, classes, and mediumship development retreats for students of all levels.
In 2015 I was inspired to share my journey to support others on their paths. My book, Choosing to Be a Medium; Experience & Share the Healing Wonder of Spirit Communication, was published by Llewellyn and Blackstone Audio in March 2019. It’s available wherever books are sold or as a signed copy here: Buy from Sharon.
I was introduced to trance mediumship at Arthur Findlay College in 2017 and continued to explore it over time, gradually deepening my practice in both trance speaking and trance healing. Over time, I expanded my offerings to include online trance circles, trance healing circles, and individual trance healing sessions.
Noticing how few resources were available for those wishing to develop their trance mediumship, I was inspired to write Choosing to be a Trance Medium: the Art of Spirit Connection and Healing, which will be published by Llewellyn and Dreamscape Publishing in November 2026.
I am grateful to my teachers and guides on both sides of life for their love, wisdom, and encouragement on this path.
With love and light,
Sharon Farber October 2025
Before
I graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts in 1983 with a BA in Sociology. When working as a case worker in North Carolina and then directing a senior adult program for the New Jersey Y Camps got old, I began researching massage schools.
I graduated from the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy in 1989 and the Institute of Healing Arts and Sciences in 2001. I became a reiki master. I founded the Avon Massage Therapy Center, which I owned for 18 years, and I began teaching massage and healing.
In 2004 I discovered a passion for painting. After selling my massage practice in 2006, I became an award-winning artist specializing in realistic nature and wildlife landscapes. Over time, my art evolved to include spiritual and healing themes – vivid, light-filled paintings that express the harmony of creativity, healing, and spirit.
Attending a group reading with a local medium inspired my own journey into mediumship. I was captivated by the healing that occurred as she connected with loved ones in spirit for each of us. Shortly after that experience, I worked with a massage client who was grieving the loss of his 11-year-old daughter. Witnessing his pain and realizing how healing a strong mediumship reading might be for him, became the catalyst for developing my own mediumship.
